The Barrier Islands of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary

This is a series of posters on the barrier islands of the Barataria-Terrebonne estuary system designed to show the dynamics of this landform. Additonally, these posters describe the restoration techniques used by CWPPRA (The Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act)  on each island. These restoration projects help to protect the islands.

The two posters at the top are too large to be downloaded from this site. If you would like a copy of the posters please contact the BTNEP office or email sandra@btnep.org The barrier islands below are listed from east to west. In order to view the poster for each island, click on the NAME of the island.  Individual island posters can be downloaded from this site.

These posters were created as part of the BTNEP Mini-Grants program.  Special thanks to Dinah Maygarden from the University of New Orleans and the Pontchartrain Insititue for Environmental Sciences.  In addition to these posters, BTNEP and UNO PIES will be posting teacher lessons plans on barrier islands by November 2009.
